Boston College defeated the highly ranked yet outmatched Merrimack College Warriors on Friday and Saturday evening.
Leading the Eagles was Head Coach Jerry York. York notched wins 900 and 901 this weekend over Boston College Graduate and Merrimack Head Coach Brian Dennehey. York is 25 or so wins from having the most Head Coaching wins in Mens College hockey history. That record is within reach next season.
Friday night Boston College outplayed Merrimack and won 4-2. The score was not as close as the final result.
Saturday night was a playoff type grudge match. Cheap-shots, heavy checks, and penalties were the name of the game. Since goal tending has been the Eagles weakness this season it was ironic that Parker Milner, the Boston College goalie, was key to the victory. Boston College won 2-1.
After the sweep Boston College moved to first place in Hockey East and second place nationally. Merrimack has dropped to fifth in Hockey East and twelfth nationally.
There are several games remaining to be played by both teams. If Boston College were to finish first then they would have home ice throughout the league playoffs. If Merrimack were to finish fifth then they would not get home ice in the league playoffs.
Remember the Bruins Canucks in the 2011 Stanley Cup finals? If Boston College plays Merrimack College again this season there might be a riot.
